History

The Palmetto Bank was organized in 1906 by J.J. Pluss, the bank's first President and CEO, a Swiss immigrant farmer who owned a grocery store in Laurens along with partner J.W. Ferguson, who later became one of the bank's Vice Presidents. It is believed that the profits from the grocery store helped to furnish the capital in order to begin The Palmetto Bank.
The Palmetto Bank was one of the few financial institutions to survive the national banking crisis of 1933 and never closed for business during the crisis.

The Palmetto Bank Today

As of June 30, 2004, The Palmetto Bank's total assets stand at approximately $941.5 million. According to the figures, our financial institution can neither be classified as a small community bank, nor as a mega-bank. In fact we fit perfectly into a very special niche, that of a mid-sized community bank.

Within the last decade, The Palmetto Bank has concentrated on expanding its coverage across the Upstate, developing a range of competitive new products and services to rival those typically offered at larger banks, and continuing to sharpen its customer service skills.

The Palmetto Bank now has 30 offices located across eight Upstate counties. Bank executives of The Palmetto Bank are always looking for new opportunities to purchase strategically placed tracts of land or existing offices of other financial institutions vacated because of mergers, etc.

The bank has consisitently developed and delivered competitive products and services such as: Saturday Banking, 8:00 a.m. Early Bird Hours, All-Day Deposit Credit, a complete web site, free basic Internet banking, online bill payment service, a fully staffed Telephone Banking Center, 24 - Hour Account Information Line, On-Line Mortgage applications, and Palmetto Index Account.

The Palmetto Bank wishes to provide the very best banking experience for its customers and attributes a large portion of its 98-year success to exceptional and personal customer service.
