The South Carolina Inland Port in Greer will take another step forward March 1 with a groundbreaking ceremony.
Greer Mayor Rick Danner said the inland port facility will be important to Greer, but "ultimately, its impact will felt in that ripple effect."
The support industries that surround a facility such as an inland port - warehousing, logistics and trucking - will be economy drivers, Danner said.
"The port itself is certainly important, but I think where we'll eventually see the most impact is going to be those businesses that are related to the port or supportive of the port in some fashion," he said. "As big as of a deal as it is, as important as it is to the city, I'm not sure that any of us, including elected officials, myself included, actually truly understand what kind of long-term impact that it could have on the city."
