Start with the Greenwood Genetic Center, St. Jude's Medical and the Biosytems Research Complex. Then add 14 state-of-the-art healthcare systems, and it's no surprise the Upstate is on the front line of bioscience innovation.

Bioscience is the industry of the future, and Upstate South Carolina is already there. Nearly 500 medical-related degrees and professional certificates are awarded in the Upstate each year in programs ranging from Bioengineering to Surgical Technology. Combine this with our proven research and manufacturing environment, and it's clear the Upstate is focused on becoming a center for biosciences excellence.
Clemson has been a leader in the field of Biosciences since the 1960s. The nation's first Society of Biomaterials was established at Clemson in 1974, and one of the nation's top 10 bioengineering patents of all times was developed at Clemson. Clemson is also one of only ten American universities to offer bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees in genetics.
This legacy continues with Clemson-supported centers and programs across the Upstate: the Bioengineering Translational Research Program, Genomics Institute, Center for Bioelectronics, Biosensors and Biochips, and the Institute for Biological Interfaces of Engineering.
Greenwood Genetic Center
Since 1974, this Greenwood County campus has been a leader in the delivery of comprehensive genetic services, including genetic research, clinical services, diagnostic laboratory services, and education.
SC Biotechnology Incubation Facility
This 22,000-sq-ft incubation facility is adjacent to a 500-acre Biotechnology Park.
Clemson University's Bioengineering Translational Research Program
One of the centerpieces of Clemson biosciences, this program brings high-impact medical technology and devices from the research bench to the bedside.
