Spanning a broad cross section of the energy industry - from traditional power generation to a strong base of utility companies to renewable component manufacturers - the Upstate is a global exporter of energy solutions.

Pioneering Energy Research & Production

Built in 1968, Upstate South Carolina-based GE Energy originally housed 250 employees focused on building the Frame7 gas turbine. Today, more than 3,000 employees manufacture a diverse range of energy and infrastructure products on a 413-acre Greenville campus. Greenville is also home to the headquarters of GE Energy Engineering. In addition to being the world's largest gas turbine manufacturing plant, GE Wind has built and delivered more than 10,000 1.5MW nacelle units for wind turbines.

Upstate South Carolina boasts one of the greatest concentrations of engineering talent in the world. In fact, it's among the Top 5 Metros in the world for engineering talent per capita. The Upstate is home to several leading engineering firms, including Fluor, Jacobs Engineering, O'Neal and CH2M Hill, as well as 4,800 students at Clemson University's College of Engineering & Science.
