BMW Manufacturing was established in 1992, and it is the only BMW plant in the United States. Associates assemble the BMW X3, X3 M, X5, X5 M, X7 and XM Sports Activity Vehicles and the X4, X4 M, X6 and X6 M Sports Activity Coupes for the world. Since the start of production began in September 1994, the factory has assembled more than 6.6 million vehicles. BMW employs more than 11,000 people at the Spartanburg, SC, plant, and assembles more than 1,500 vehicles each day. The factory is also the largest automotive exporter in the U.S. by value, with the latest export value totaling about $9.6 billion in 2022. The plant exports more than 50 percent of its vehicles to about 120 countries around the world. All totaled, the BMW Group has invested more than $13.3 billion in the Spartanburg facility.
