With a population of over 72,000 as of 2022, it is the fifth-largest municipality in the state and one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Greenville County’s population of over 547,000 as of 2022 makes it the largest county in South Carolina. Greenville is the largest city in the Greenville-Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) had a population of 9958,958 in 2022, making it the largest in South Carolina and the third largest in the Carolinas. Greenville is the largest city in the 10-county region of northwestern South Carolina, known as “The Upstate”, which had a Combined Statistical Area (CSA) population of 1,537,109 as of 2022.

Greenville’s City Council is comprised of a mayor and six council members, two who are elected at-large and four who are elected from their respective districts. Knox White has served as the mayor of Greenville since December 1995.
